Ekahau BSSID Logic Error

Ekahau BSSID Logic Error

Problem Description

A Post-Deployment survey is performed with the following equipment:

  • Survey app for iPad V3.5.1705-5cdf22a
  • Sidekick 2

Upon reviewing the collected data, some APs (Aruba in this specific scenario) appear with only a single 2.4 GHz radio and others are displayed with a single 2.4 GHz radio and two 5 GHz radios, 3x total.

This is unexpected! The AP model is AP655 which does not support multiple 5 GHz radios and according to the applied configuration (Aruba Central) none of the APs have their 5 GHz radio disabled.

Explanation

The reality here is that during the data collection (survey) the BSSID logic applied within the iPad app failed to correctly match all the BSSIDs with the correct Access Points.

This error as far as I can tell exists only in the relationship of BSSID to AP, the coverage data displayed is unaffected.

How do I fix this?

Fortunately Ekahau AI Pro (the desktop application) offers a function to trigger re-assessment of the captured BSSID / MAC binding.

'Multi-Radio and Multi-MAC Detection..' is the function we can use to fix the issue in the captured data.

This can only be done within the desktop application. For me, in my specific scenario, no changes were needed in the following dialog box:

I clicked 'Ok'

'Ok' again

Using this option within Ekahau fixed all 5x instances of incorrectly assigned radios to APs (BSSIDs to AP).

The 'Good-to-Know'

I only include this section in case you apply this fix and then immediately wish to export a map or make a report.

Something unexpected happened when I tried using the 'Export Image...' function after applying this fix.

After applying the fix, within the application all APs (including the fixed APs) remained visible on the map, however, the exported the 'AP locations map' image, did NOT display all 5x of the APs that had been fixed.

I saved the project with a new file name, closed the application, opened the freshly saved file, the fixed APs were displayed within the application and this time when I exported the 'AP locations map' image, ALL APs appeared.
